About the piece

This piece is extremely fine with silk foundation. light blue back ground, with a count knot of over a million in one sqm, is one of the earlier Isfahan and possibly, one of the finest ever seen for that era. The rug had been in private collection of an important Persian dealer for more than 60 years and is in perfect full pile condition. an extremely well drawn medallion design representing a truly magnificent Persian fine rug. Isfahan, once the capital city of Shah Abbas in 1595 considered to be one of the most magical cities in Iran with its magnificent mosques and architecture that has been the inspiration for many carpet designs in both floral and geometric designs. Isfahan carpets made from fine wool and silk generally woven onto silk warps and weft threads are considered to be among the finest and most durable Persian rugs, where the artist designers and weavers reflect their initiative and their art on to a carpet. The best known recent manufactures are Seirafian, Haghighi and Shoreshi. Pure silk rugs in Isfahan are rarely made and the manufacturer called Shoreshi has mastered the skill of making limited quantity of pure silk rugs by using vegetable dyes and high quality silk.
