Islimi Motif in Shah Abbasi & Islimi Medallion & Corner Design
Sheikh Safi Medallion

Tabriz, the capital of the northwestern province of Azerbaijan, is one of the oldest cities in Iran and also a very important Persian carpet weaving centre. Tabriz rugs come in many different sizes, qualities and designs. The finest of them show the signature of the weaver in the rug border. There exist several Tabriz sub-styles like Mahi, Naqsheh, and Tabatabaie. Most designs, however, employ curvilinear patterns, floral motifs, and centre medallions. Pictorials, hunting scenes and the like can also be found, while rugs with geometric patterns frequently are woven in the surrounding villages and then marketed in Tabriz.
