The art of carpet weaving in China dates back to 400 BC. The best quality, highly resilient wool must be used to make a Chinese Superwashed Rug. The warp and weft are made from spun cotton. Classic symbols are drawn from nature, mythology, Buddhist and Taoist religious have been and are the basis if all Chines rug designs.
The use of special dyes in the yarn of this rug allows the weaver to choose from over 600 shades of colour. These yarn shades are used in subtle graduation to achieve tonal values on every leaf, peal and symbol of the design. Then comes the most crucial part, the design on the rug is brought to life by hand-carving and sculpting, which requires a meticulous skill.
This is critical for the rug to pass the inspection test.
Finally, the rug is carefully washed by a unique process. This releases the lustrous sheen on the pile surface and softens the colours to make the carpet so distinctive and desirable.
